They all reseed just fine here. Maybe you have them in a place where the seed can't grow readily or maybe you pull them too early in the fall. Why not gather some seed in the summer and fall and plant it early in the spring

what are you doing different??.. have you added mulch.. that is not allowing the seed to hit soil???

are you weeding them out in early spring.. before you remember that you want those little sprouts ...

what has changed since you were successful ..

and yes.. certain hybrids are at the extreme range of the breeding continuum .... and it is possible they are sterile ...

so perhaps you search out the old standards .... instead of the foo foo designer varieties ...

if i have to kill another mickey mouse johnny jump up.. i am going to puke.. lol .. they are near invasive in my sand ....

Johnny jump ups are invasive no matter where the are. I pulled all mine out well over 20 years ago and they are still cropping up in spots all over the yard. Even in spots like around the outside of the garden, where we have never touched our pure clay soil. They get pulled every time I see them, but they are like the proverbial cat and keep coming back.

Ok oil painter, you don't have to rub it in :) Johnny jump ups is exactly what i have wanted most to come back! The violas that i have planted now are a burgandy color - that is why i was thinking they might not be the old fashioned ones?

I have to keep the few Johnny Jump Ups I got to germinate last year up on the deck so the deer don't eat them! Happy to see the blooms I let die naturally on the stems reseeded in the container and have sprouted. Some people's problems are another's dreams...LOL. The rest of violas I had in beds were eaten and haven't returned.

A very few suspected Alyssum reseeds have sprouted but won't know if they're weeds until a little later. One can always hope. They're such a good border/filler plant I'm germinating more and not depending on reseeding.
