Some honest advice.

Thank whoever bought you the bonsai kit or whatever then throw the seeds away go down to the garden centre and buy a 10 year old Norway spruce for 9.99 (picea abies albertiana) and you'll have saved 10 years.

Its notoriously difficult to make Norway spruce look like anything other than a mini Xmas tree however.

A cotoneaster with a decent trunk ( 4.99) would be a better bet.

For the most part avoid buying "bonsai" from chain stores and garden centres unless they are specialist bonsai outlets.

Buy any selection of books aimed at learners or introducing the subject by someone like Harry Tomlinson or Colin Lewis (who has a £4.99 pocket sized one out that covers most of his other books)

Have a mess around with a couple of trees.

Spend sometime looking at these pictures. When you can separate the good examples from the bad examples you'll be on the way.
