Flower buds do not make seed. A plant has to flower before it sets seeds. Petunias do naturally have a little ball behind the flower that does turn into a seed pod. After the plant has flowered you can remove those if you want, but not before it flowers. removing the buds will not hurt the plant just get you fewer flowers for now, but there will be plenty more to come

most likely you bought plants that were FORCED early for sale ...

so your ambient weather isnt too relative ...

once many seeds are set.. an annual has ... oh hit the link..

Petunias do not need to be forced for early sale. They will start flowering naturally in about 8 weeks and greenhouses start them accordingly. Of course the weather makes no difference they are indoors. I do wish you would read what the poster is asking!!

if she had planted the seed .... she would not be having a seed issue in may ... especially where her facts say it got cold for an extended period

ergo .. she bought plants started in a greenhouse .. which were in bloom when she bought them ... they were forced earlier than what her normal ambient outdoor culture would allow ...

which means they are already setting seeds ... which have to be removed ...

besides the fact.. that she says she still has them in the house ...

here i will make it simple ...they are setting seed BECAUSE THEY HAVE MATURED TO THE POINT OF BEING ABLE TO SET SEED ... which according to oily is 8 weeks after planting ...
