Well, what I know for sure is that it likes to dry out quite a bit between waterings, but it also likes humidity (probably more important indoors in winter, though you may be able to keep it outside a lot of the year... are you really only zone 6, or warmer?). Since you've done so much to it now, unless it's critically rootbound, I wouldn't do a whole lot more this year.
