Anyhow, that mix sounds pretty good.
How big are the fir bark pieces, and the various particles in general?

Ummm. The bark is good size and the particles the same.

Ummm, could you be specific. I don't know what "good size" means. Moreover, my "good size" might be different than your "good size." So: three inch, two inch, inch and a half, half inch, quarter inch, eighth inch, fine like dust?

The reason I'm asking is this: consistently sized particles, approximately 1/16 to 1/8 inch, allow for good watering and good drainage.

So, you might want to do what I do with bark: screen out the real fine stuff (bark, perlite, and charcoal alike), and remove (or chop up) the real big stuff.

If you rinse the media as well, much of that fine, powdery stuff will wash away.

The bark and perlite is big. I'm not sure of the exact size maybe 2-2.5 inches and the perlite is about a half inch.

Also won't the bark chips just crush the seedling if it gets bumped since technically nothing is holding the seedling up? What can I do to insure the seedling does not get crushed?
