repotting

Hello everyone.

I was given my first and only bonsai - a trident maple - last christmas, and am at the stage where I need to repot it for the first time. I have read up on how to treat the plant, and I have the materials I need, but I just noticed some new growth.

Here in Melbourne (approx z9 I think), it is still winter, although it has been a mild one, and I have read that this is the right time to repot. My concern is that I may endanger my plant by pruning its roots now that it has begun to grow again.

I think I should go ahead and transplant it anyway, but thought it might be a wise idea to check with the knowledgeable people out there.

Thanks for any advice.

Geoff
