I'm preparing to start a root over rock style with a twisted hinoki cypress. To you experienced members, what is the best time of year to start the process? I understand that lifting the tree will probably damage the finer roots and root hairs. Will the tree have enough time to recover before winter if I do this in the fall? Or should I wait till spring? In either case what signs should I look for to tell me the tree is ready?
