Glued on pebbles

I received a "mall sai" tree not too long ago and discovered it had those glued on pebbles covering half of the ground covering on my juniper bonsai. What is the safest way to remove this covering without damaging the tree and once removed, should i replace the covering with loose pebbles or stick to the moss covering? Thank you.

Just take some small pliers and work from wherever there's an opening, and pry or lift them off. Just be very careful close to the trunk that you don't tear up the small roots there.

No need to go back with moss. It does the same thing the glued on rocks do, only less impenetrably. Moss should be for display only. Moss and trees (usually needing lots of sun) don't cohabitate well generally.
