Have you put it directly into full sun from what (to a tree) is a dull place indoors? Try putting in the shade. How much do you water, how often?

I water when its dry. I put it in the shade outdoors and it still starts to die. It flourishes indoor. I've read on websites how very few spruces will flourish indoors but i guess this is one of those few.

Another question: how old is it? How did you obtain this tree? Was it from seed, and you sowed it indoors?

If the answer to the last two questions were yes (which I have a feeling that they are!), then it's because your little tree needs to be hardened off to the outdoors.

Inside, the growing conditions are almost too perfect; there's no wind, no glaring sunshine, no (or very few) pests, etc. Everything is regulated so the tree can basically grow unhindered. This is what I think you are talking about when you say that the spruce is flourishing indoors.

This would seem to be the ideal set-up. However, the plant eventually becomes a victim of its own rapid growth. Because it can grow quickly, they push out more growth than they can support. Thus when you bring it outside, it doesn't have the strength to "hold up," literally, and also against the elements.

Thus, you have to gradually accustom it to the outdoors. Putting it in a sheltered location is usually the first step (i.e. shade, little wind, moderate temperature), but if you're finding that it can't take that yet, then you'll have to do it even more gradually. Try using the same technique used to harden seedlings sown under glass.

If you keep the tree indoors, it will continue to push long and weak growth (although it might look luxurious) until it can no longer stand.

Thank you for the info but the answer to your questions in no and no i found it as a sapling not from seed and it was outside. How do i harden it to go outside?
