The waves are in categories depending on their growth habits. The original waves were quite prostrate and will definitely hang downward but the basket can have a flat-top appearance. The Easy waves are more mounding, and though they'll eventually trail out, give a more upright presentation. I like to mix the two in baskets, so that they not only drip down, but mound up. The Tidal waves I find unruly in baskets because the closer they are planted the more height they obtain and are sometimes called hedgifolias for that reason. The new shock waves make nice really full baskets, but they do the tutu routine.

Thanks, that's a really helpful description. I have "Wave® Misty Lilac." So that must be "original." That's good. Sounds like it will be a good trailer then. I'll plant them solo and see how it turns out this year. Every year is an experiment with my hanging baskets.

From my experience the only wave that grows really flat is the original purple wave. All the other colors will cascade nicely. I had misty lilac once and, even though I'm not a huge fan of the color, the plant got huge, almost 4 feet. Keep in mind that they need room to grow! Too many plants and you'll need to feed them daily to get good results.

Purple is indeed the flatest of the waves. I've done most all of the whole series at one time or another. I do lavender wave every year because they light up and show in the dawn and dusk hours and go so well with the salmon and pinks. I wasn't a huge fan of misty lilac either and replaced it with lavender.
