Calibrachoa

My calibrachoa have been so beautiful all spring, but have recently stated to turn brown from the bottom up. I have them planted in window box planters that I have attached to my front porch bannister. I pulled some out of one of the pots to inspect it more thoroughly and discovered them seriously root bound. Would this cause the browning and wilt? I thought these pots would last all season so now, I am in a bit of a predicament as to what to do with the plants. I am thinking of planting them in the front bed. Do they do well planted in the ground or should I invest in bigger pots? Thanks!

I have never personally had any luck keeping Calibrachoa going through our hot summers. They are like petunias. Once the really hot weather moves in, they die. I know that's not what you wanted to hear. Sorry. (And it's possible someone else has an idea I don't know about.) Maybe if you could put them somewhere that they get morning sun and afternoon shade, they would hold on awhile longer. I doubt that root bound conditions would bring on your problem as long as they were getting regular water.

Oh, well, I was afraid of that. The ones I have with the morning sun and afternoon shade are still doing well so I will move as many to that as I can. Don't tell me that about the Petunias!! Mine are still beautiful, and I want them to stay that way! lol
