how about you rework the fence.. and open up a 2 foot section.. and continue the protection of the rest ... and see what happens ...

i surely am not going to be the one to tell you to go for it ... only to find out that every insane rabbit for 3 blocks tracks down you garden .. lol

I tend to think rabbits much prefer the tender new spring growth. I haven't seen my rabbit this year; come to think of it, no chipmunks either and only one squirrel. Must have an as yet unseen predator of some type.

Trying out a new product I found at Menard's called "Deer Stopper" (says it's good against moose and elk, too, LOL) - same ingredients as Liquid Fence, etc., but with the addition of mint. Quite pleasant to use and seems to be a much finer spray so a bottle will last through more applications than Liq. Fence. They have "Stopper" formulas for rabbits and other critters as well.

So far my hosta, lily buds, balloon flowers, budded daylily scapes are totally untouched. Haven't seen deer evidence for over a month now.

I decided to remove it completely today. Trying to put myself inside a rabbits head, I would probably leave the zinnias alone, I might munch the celosia and I just can't imagine any creature who would be interested in the smelly marigolds. We'll see.

In regards to rabbits in general, I can't figure out why they are leaving the garden in my yard alone. Last year I was finding baby bunnies hiding all over the place. This year nothing although I see them in other peoples yards. I wonder if they find the shredded wood mulch I'm using this year unappealing? It had quite an odor when I put it down.
