I would not keep them in a plastic container or in damp soil because they will rot in this heat. Since you have a 20 gallon container full of them, why not spread them out on sheets of paper on your garage floor and start planting them as soon as you can?

I would rather plant them as soon as possible, achang. But don't water them. In their native land, they bake in the sun all summer then begin to send out new roots in the fall.
