i grew it once... for 2 years.. and then determined it was highly invasive.. and have spent the last 5 years trying to get rid of it ...

do some reading ..... and decide if you really want to aid its distribution around your garden ...

nigella damascena (Love-in-a-mist) self-sows freely, but it is not on the invasive list here in my state of North Carolina.

I find nigella plants to be easy to pull out of the ground, if you have too many.

When you see the dried pods are open a bit at the top, the seeds inside are ready to collect.

I carry a paper bag out into the garden. I rub off the little sprigs of dead growth on the pod and drop the clean, whole pod into the bag.

I leave the bag alone (inside the house) for several days to allow the seeds to continue to dry inside the pods.

I put down a sheet of blank newsprint (or other paper). I take a pod and use a small flathead screwdriver to gently open each seed chamber to release the seed onto the paper.

I put the seeds into parchment paper (folded and taped into a small envelope) to store. I put the parchment envelope inside a little ziplock pill bag (available at drugstores).

Keep all seeds out of reach of pets and children!

I don't think it's invasive here in VA, I planted it originally two years ago and this one plant is all that is left!

i did NOt mean invasive as a technical horticultural term ... i am sure its not on a list somewhere ..

though i like a lot of the free seeders that ramble around my garden.. this one just didnt cooperate in a manner to my liking...

what was one or two cute plants.. turned into a 6 foot square .. 4 feet high jungle tangle that didnt flower significantly enough for my liking.. i meant it invaded that space..
