I remember reading about this for impatiens and coleus a number of years ago. I'm not sure which forum, but annuals seems a good fit.

I tried it this year with portulaca and it seems to work. It is not the fastest growing plant, so it may not be practical in zones with shorter seasons.

Anyone else tried this?
