Overwintering

I have some gentian sage type salvia I started from seed via wintersowing, and it has grown, but won't flower this year. Can I overwinter it by digging it up and keeping it potted on a windowsill? I know I can do this with lisianthus, because I've done it before. Anyone have any experience with this? I have tried starting this plant from seed indoors, but I don't have a light set-up and rely on windows, and I've had poor results - the wintersown seedlings I have produced good strong plants, and I'd like to keep them going for blooms next year.

Also, I have a few annual geraniums I would like to winter over - I know that people do this - how?

Thanks in advance,

Kim
