happens all the time when i plant them ... never have the problem when they come up free range from seed ....

it usually ends up.. upon getting sick of them. ... that i tear them out.. only to find.. the roots never grew... for whatever reason ...

either upon tearing the cell pack overgrown roots apart for planting.. or improper planting [too much mulch got into the soil to interfere with water retention abilities] ...

anyway .... you have a 90% success rate.. revel in that .. ... lol ..

i am not aware of any bug problem with these plants..

That's exactly what was wrong. When I read your post, I gently tugged on the withered ones & sure enough... barely a half inch of roots.
