This is the first year I've grown asters. I noticed a group planting of Dwarf Queens last fall and bought 12 plants this spring - placed them in full sun in well drained soil and fertilized with Miracle Gro.

The plants started blooming about 2 weeks ago and are very showy.

Heavy rains recently knocked some of the stems to soil level - these I cut for arrangements.

Will deadheading prolong the blooming time and should I have pinched back earlier in the season to encourage stronger stems.
