How much partial sun are your Impatiens in. Impatiens are a total shade plant--one of the few annuals--actually it is a tender perennial-- that can thrive with no direct sun at all. They can tolerate early morning and late evening sun. but more than that and you are putting them in an adverse condition. This year being so much warmer than usual is bad if they are not planted in ideal conditions. I think you may mean spagnum moss baskets. I have never hears of growers growing in peat. Are they open wire baskets with a liner?

As for your morning Glories You have to watch the fertilizer for these plants. Too much Nitrogen in the mix and they'll grow nothing but lush green leaves. Nitrogen is the first number on the fertilizer package

Impatiens are in morning sun - same as last year - last year they did fine with the exception of wilting when I neglected to water in morning. I tried planting impatiens in TOTAL shade in the past, they did nothing, grew spindly on me. They were the one-seys and not large plants, but I had planted then in my window boxes and they were a real disappointment. Yes, you are correct, sphagnum moss basket.

Morning Glories weren't fertilized at all - they did fine with total neglect last year, so I left them alone this year too - which is why I'm stumped.

Can only comment on the MGs. I'm wondering if it isn't the seed I purchased this year, maybe it's from plants that do not flower heavily. Of course I don't remember the name of the seed company so that I don't purchase the same packet next year. Or it could be that I sowed the seed later than usual because of the wet Spring.

There is lots of foliage on the vine I planted to climb up to the window; but today I noticed flower buds, so perhaps in a couple weeks there will be something blooming. Now the vine I planted on the fence has been blooming but sporadically. Not the big flush of bloom like in the past.

Strange! My Impatiens are along the house on the true north side in complete shade, and they grow lush and full of flowers. I have grown them there for years, and never had a problem. I wonder if it's the soil you have in your planters. Did you change it this year? Does it have a lot of Peat? Other than that I'm stumped.

About the impatiens....since you are watering twice a day (do they need it that often?), you need to be watchful that you are fertilizing often enough. Remember, you said last year that you were using your soluble fertilizer once per week.

I find that many of my high production containerized plants do their best if they are fertilized frequently with low doses of the product of choice.

My morning glories and cardinal climbers did not bloom this year either! This the first year for my new raised bed gardens - the soil is very rich in compost and I have a feeling it is too rich in nitro. I was so disappointed though because my husband made me a nice pergola with lattice sides and I was so looking forward to seeing it covered with MG flowers!
