There is a plant called a trailing zinnia, but it is not really a zinnia, Sanvitalia procumbens. It's very easy from seed, and occationally I see it sold in four inch pots. Sue

Zinnia Short Stuff is only 8 to 10 inches tall, and has 3" to 4" blooms. You can also get Short Stuff from Jung's, New England Seed, and probably from several other sources as well.

Thumbelina grows only 6" to 8" tall, and has smaller flowers. Zinnita are an improvement over the older Thumbelina.

I'd suggest the profusion series. I have a bunch of them in large urns and they've grown enough to start to drape out over the pots, very gracefully. This plant is not at all stiff and proper like most zinnias, and is so easy to care for. I did the apricots this year and decided next year that is the only profusion I am going to grow. I was very impressed.

mmqchdygg - - The seeds from the Sanvitalia procumbens are very pinchy and tiny - I got them last year and pinched my fingers really bad handling them. They are definitely trailing, low to the ground, massive and look like tiny black eyed susans, but they are considered zinnias - for some reason. They need lots of warmth to germinate. They don't trail real long, but I use profusions and Angustifolias in pots for spillers. They are, for my money, the easiest, and best looking over the long haul, zinnias I grow.
