With the terrible dry weather animals and birds are starving and are eating things this year that they never have before. There normal fare in the bush is nonexistant. All berry plants are dried up or didn't produce fruit because it was so dry

There are lots of deer around my son's place. He has given up trying to grow the deer's favorites. In the 15 years he has lived there they have never touched his Tomatoes but not so this year. He has lost lots of them to deer.

We managed to keep the birds out of the corn while it was growing. We picked all our corn but left a few small cobs and then we never tried to discourage them. The blackbirds and crows were in there in droves. So many that they knocked over a bunch of the corn stalks.

Just wish for better weather next year so all those critters go back to eating a normal diet

deer arent really nibblers.. besides the fact.. that they usually leave hoof prints .... cant miss those ...

i vote rabbit .. i hate them with a passion.. going from plant to plant.. taking a nip.. and spitting it out ... i would feel a little better.. if they ate the stuff.. whats this spitting it all out about?????

I doubt that the culprit is a four legged critter, at all. More likely a caterpillar....perhaps one of the cutworms. Do some detective work after dark or before the sun comes up. Flashlight in hand, those are good times to find caterpillars.

Rhizo, I agree. Some of the plants were nibbled 3 feet off the ground. Will preventative spray next year!!

I saw nibbles on my coleus plant one afternoon. The next day my husband witnessed a towhee (bird) eating away. The following day EVERY bit of leaf is stripped to the stem on this normally safe plant.
