I don't think that is a sweet pea. It has altogether the wrong sort of leaf for a sweet pea and the flower is not exactly the same. Just a very wild guess but could it be an orchid

Yep, definitely a legume of some sort and it does look very much like the fava bean. Interesting to note that the fava bean, though edible to most people, is extremely toxic for some. It's a genetic thing.

Why???? If you leave it you will have some delicious beans to eat soon. When you have harvested the beans (very young, about the size of your finger nail, so they are really tender) then you can cut the plant down and let the root nodules rot in the Veronica pot to release their stored nitrogen into the soil.
