Hello,

A couple years ago I bought one of those "wildflower" packets to spread around a patch of my garden. A kind of zinnia came up, and was visited by hummingbords, so I saved seed from it. I have no idea what variety it is, but it's not the kind that seems to be just a mass of petals with a small button of stames and pistils, there is a substantial cone of reproductive parts in the middle. They are similar to the one shown in the link below

I planted some of the saved seed this year, and one of the flowers has a second ring of petals around the top of the center cone. Strangely, this is only on one bloom. It is similar to the "double decker" coneflower I've seen in catalogs. I'll take a picture soon.

Google searches on this have come up empty. Is this something zinnias do once in a while? Have I happened upon a new sport/variety? I plan on saving seeds from that particular blossom as well as the normal ones. Happily, these blooms are attraacting hummers again this year.
