cosmos root along their stems

In all my years of gardening, I've never seen such a wonderful thing. I usually stake my cosmos but this year I let them fall. All the stems and branches rooted along the ground, each plant forming a 3 foot high, 2 foot wide bush with tons of blooms.

Thanks for passing your observation along. Is your cosmos the ferny foliage type that has white or pink or red flowers or is it the cut leaf type with orange or yellow flowers? - June

It's the ferny type...bipinnatus...either versailles or sensation.

Don't you love that effect? I've had that happen as well. And on other plants like zinnias. I know that flopping isn't always a desired effect, but if it's planned for, it's spectacular. Maureen
