the issue are:

sunlight levels
humidity levels

even in a window.. sunlight is highly diluted.. depending on where you are ...

and forced air heating is very problematic regarding humidity levels for many outdoor plants ...

the impatiens .. MIGHT be rootable .... and you may be able to struggle thru with such .... no experience with the others ...

if you have a greenhouse.. then it might be easier to accomplish such..

I can tell you that I have overwintered Salvia, Mystic Spires for several years. I take cuttings in October (here), stick them in pots (at least a quart) and set them in the shade for about a month to root. Be sure to spray them for insects before you bring them inside! Then I put them in my basement under flourescent lights for the winter. I have had great success with this. In the early spring, I take more cuttings from the over-wintered plants and root them for summer too. This makes fewer plants to tend through the winter.

Mexican Heather is perennial here. If you have an unheated place that won't freeze, I should think you could manage them too. They die back to the ground in the winter.

Ken is right. If you are taking your plants into a heated home, and especially if your winters are very long, this may all be more difficult.

mine would have to be indoors from about right now.. until june 1st ... give or take ... thats like 7 months ... no wonder i give up on them.. lol ...

I am starting my winter cuttings right now. I will leave them outside in the shade (today's high: 88) until first frost warnings which usually occur sometime during the first two weeks of November. Our last frost is usually in late March, though I can typically bring some things outside in early March with some kind of protection. I really, truly HATE winter...even here. I know, I know... I used to live in Indiana. I had nightmares about those long gray winters for years after we moved back south. REally..:)

Your new guinnea impatiens should winter over just fine, but treat it for spider mite before you bring it in. I used to bring in different colors of impatiens, but gave it up because I got tired of fighting spidermite--they are almost impossible to get rid of.
