Hello there,

I grew Cobaea this season on a south facing balcony. It grew lovely, even climbed the brick wall and said hello to the neighbour upstairs and flowerd freely.

My father had grown one the year before and warned me what a mess the flower's nectar would produce. So I watched closely but none of the flowers of my specimen spilled any nectar. The flowers were visited by bumble-bees very rarely.

So now I wonder whether the nectar production is triggered by high temperatures or some other factor or is rather a matter of genetic differences.

My father's balcony is partly glasses in so the temperatures reached often 40°C/104 Fahrenheit or more.

My balcony is sunny but the plant still got the wind and everything and it was a very cool, rainy summer.

What were the flowers of your Cobaeas like (and roughly the site condition)?

I'm just curious and would love to learn about your experience. And just in case I took cuttings, so (with them surviving the winter) next season my dad and I have another go with the Cobaea and will compare nectar production rates ... :-)
