Adding steps/stile to existing retaining wall

When I bought the lot for my house, the builder's "map" showed a retaining wall at the lot line. When I drove by the lot no stakes were visible under the Wisconsin snow, but I liked the lot and the wall was beautiful so I took it. Imagine my surprise when I found that the wall is actually 6 feet in from the lot line. I've planted low-maintenance perennials on it over the years and go up a few times each season to pull weeds.

Unfortunately, I'm no longer limber enough to scale the wall (it's about 4 feet high) and am having a hard time getting up there to take care of anything. Does anyone have a suggestion for how to add a stile or stairs to the wall without having to re-build the wall itself?

My main considerations are that the area between the wall and the house is not more than 12 feet so I can't do anything that will extend too far into the yard. I can climb a stile or something ladder-like, but I can't get a toehold in the rocks and am no longer willing to "Spiderman" it to the top (or to jump down like I have done in the past).

Any advice is appreciated. It would really extend the space in my yard if I could get all the way to the back of it -- I might even put a small table up there to enjoy the summer sun!
