gardenweb emails

I don't seem to be getting my emails that are forwarded from gardenweb. Someone told me in a post that they were sending me an email but I never received it. I sent her an email (also to be forwarded from gardenweb, as there was no other choice) telling her to email me directly. I don't think she got it either because I still have not heard from her. Anybody else having this problem?

Melba

P.S. Also last year whenever I started a post, all replies to that post were sent to me via email. This year I have had to go to the post on gardenweb to read the replies.

I got replies to my post, but none of the emails that people indicated they sent or were sending. Another person that I traded with said she hadn't even gotten the notices from GW. and if you get a notice from someone that doesn't have their addy posted, well, you can't even click reply. you have to go to the site, cross your fingers with the form, and figure they're never going to get it.

This is why it is very important to have our e-addy available for other members to see.

Your only option is to put a post on that thread, in case the person checks that again...which they may not...and indicate for them to email you directly. Just don't put your email addy in the post - internet things autoharvest email addies that way, and you'll get more spam.

I guess an additional thought -- did you click the box for the replies to be sent? (I only ask because it was a long time before I started a thread, and don't know if it was automatic before then.)

Hope this helps, or at least lets you know you are not alone!

    Hi Melba,
When you used to start a thread, emails of the postings were sent to you automatically. This has changed. You need to check the little box(it is directly below the area where you write your message) to have emails sent before you submit your post.
Also, my email system seems to be sending random GW emails to my junk/spam folder, so check there.
    Hope that helps,
    Remy

Thanks Tina and Remy for your replies. I sent myself a test message yesterday through gardenweb. I have not received it so I know it is definitely not forwarding them. I did not know that gardenweb has changed and now wants you to 'check the little box' if want replies to 'your' thread to go to your email box. I will watch for that the next time I start a thread. The thread in question was not started by me or the other person. I did leave a post for her to contact me directly but have not heard from her yet. She probably wants to do a seed swap with me as I was talking about doing one with the original poster. I just hate for her to think that I am just ignoring her email, because I am not that kind of person.

I just did an interesting test.

I went to my member profile, and unchecked the box that says "Allow other users to send you email via forms at our site"...yet kept it set to "Show my email address to: Members". To see if I could force someone to copy and past my email address instead of using the ineffective form.

Then I went to see what users would see on My Member Page.

Low and behold, there was no "email this member" link at the top (which is what I click on to see their address, ignoring the form of course).

I'm not sure where in this situation they plan to show my email address to a member....Maybe only when I reply to their post and they've check the box? Shouldn't it read "Show my email to: Members I've replied to only" then?

Low and behold, there was no "email this member" link at the top (which is what I click on to see their address, ignoring the form of course).

Here is a little known tidbit I happened to discover some time back, that may help someone sometime.

If the preference is set to show email to members, and the box 'not' checked to receive emails via GW Form, one can click on See my Journal, and it will take you to where you can see the addy, but if you try to send my clicking on Send soandso an email, an Outlook Express email form comes up. I don't use OE, so I end up copying the email addy to my regular Hotmail.

The email settings are confusing, especially for newbies wanting to jump in and trade, or answer offers.

Maybe someone would like to add to the suggestion I posted a while back.

I set myprofile back to the experimental settings, and when I go to the Journal page like you indicated, it still doesn't show an option for email. I'll try testing this on some other folks who don't have an "email this memeber" link on their profile...

I sent an email to GW with a modification of my above post, we'll see if I get a reply. I'll check out your linka bove too.

    Thanks,

    Tina,

Yesterday b4 I posted (above) I went to your page, and saw you had no email link.

I then clicked on 'See my Journal' and there was a link to send you an email. When I clicked on it, I then saw your addy....so the setting was 'Show addy to members' and the box not checked to receive via GW forms.

I just went to your page again, and there is no link on it, but when I clicked on Journal, and got to your journal page, there was a link Send kilngod an Email

I just clicked on kilngod's 'member page' and I did not see her email link, so I clicked on her 'journal' link and I did not see it there either. Then I remembered that I wasn't logged on. Once I logged on, I was able to see it in her 'journal' area.

I guess it's savvy to me being logged in, but doesn't want me to send an email to myself! Still havent' found any newbies with it rigged this way. for those I've found, if they don't have the "email link" on the member page, they also don't have the "send xxxx and email" on the journal page.

    Hmmmm....

Could one of you rig yours this way so I can see where I'm looking for this on the journal page? (that would be so great!)

    T,

I finally found one. I did find out that I had to have my settings 'right' b4 I could see the link on the member's journal page.

I see you have yours set back 'right' now, so you should see what I mean now.

There for a while it seemed about 75% of new members had no link....hence me being a busy body and letting them know even though I was not trading. New members can usually be easily spotted as so many of them don't have a zone or state abbreviation in their profile so it will show in a post.

a 'new to me' member name on the Seed X is indeed a new member with no email link on their page, (have not checked the box to receive emails via the GW form,) but have made their addy viewable to members...click on See my Journal and follow the link.

BTW Chemocurl you can set your internet settings to default to yahoo email intead of OE in did it when i set up a spreadsheet for mrs_seeders_husband to keep track of trades and email addies and made it hyperlink to those she is trading with.

Chemocurl - you rock. So the system will not allow two people with non-ideal settings to see each other's email in any situation, but a "right' setting member can see email for one kind of non-ideal setting member.

    Attention all members:

Study this above stuff. 1) It is a good idea to have that box checked to allow contact by the GW email-form. 2) Shows a back up way to find these elusive members with botched setting in #1.

Seeders_Husband: what a blessing that would be. Care to post a procedure thread for this :)

I changed my email address to another email address I have (Gmail) and sent myself an email through gardenweb (forwarding) and it was there in seconds. Then I changed it back to my Comcast email and tested it again and it did not forward it again. Gardenweb doesn't seem to like my Comcast email address. Anybody having the same problem or know why this is happening?

Today there is a new member posting on the seed X (new to me name) and no state.

I posted my 'canned' message which is in a post I have saved to my favorites. If anyone at any time wants to, they can copy and paste it in for instructions for a newbie who is not set up to be able to use the boards.

    Seeders,
I too would be interested in the specifics (step by simple step).

    Kiln,
I think I may have been a Nancy Drew type person in a previous life...lol

    Melba,
It has been my understanding (from the discussions I have read) that it is not any particular email addy that is rejected, but rather it is just that 'part' of the messages are going through 'part' of the time...I might be mistaken though...it has been known to happen.
