Free Cast Away Bulbs and Plants

Here is my frugal way of enhancing our garden, you may want to try it too: Adopt plants like others adopt animals! A friend of mine who lives in a nearby classy condominium complex got me on to this: around this time every year they throw out masses of tulip and carnation bulbs, as well as pansies and other plants, to make room for the summer growing annuals. Just have to show up on the right day, the landscaping people seem to be glad to find adoptive homes for the plants that would otherwise end up being composted. The majority of pansies I got last year bloomed for me all summer and fall, some even came back this year. And most or all of the tulip bulbs ( still with leaves) that I planted and fertilized last year bloomed beautifully this year!

Last week I received more than I had room for, so gave some to friends and neighbours.
