Newspaper, mulch, cardboard. Your question is so vague, it's impossible to answer with more detail.

I agree with a heavy layer of newspaper or cardboard under the mulch. being careful how you turn the soil also helps - many weed seeds need light for germination, and can stay dormant under the soil for a number of years - so, in a strange way, the less you work the soil, the better off you are.

my favorite method of control is a flame weeder, which rapidly dehydrates the plant (you're wilting it, not burning it) and kills it from the crown...but I live in a water-rich region where it's a viable option.

Ditto on newspaper; I've had a lot of luck with that.

Also, you can pour boiling water, vinegar, or a saline solution on specific problem plants (i.e.: a dandelion in sidewalk cracks).

If they are dandelion or plantain I'd pick them and eat them. Same with purslane. lamb's quarters, chickweed, so many others. Some make good medicinals or food for rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, other pets or livestock. All make fairly good compost as long as you make sure no seeds end up in the mix.

A version of Lasagna Gardening works great for both weed control and for containing plants you originally purchased that have become too successful in your garden and are crowding out their neighbors.

It involves placing wet newspapers, at least 10 pages thick around the plants you wish to keep and on top of those you want to kill. The newspapers get overlapped (hence the name lasagna gardening). When you are finished, a top layer of mulch is added to hide the newspapers. This method is so much easier than pulling all the weeds and as the newspapers rot down, they improve the soil.
