Almost all roosters will eventually crow. As you're seeing, some breeds with certain comb types may be confusing to sex before they are fully mature. It isn't helping that the pullet which is laying probably has as full a comb as any young males in the group. You can make it complicated if you really have to know ASAP by seperating each bird individually until it lays, and band it as a pullet, but you'll still have to wait because those that don't lay may just still be immature. 4 months is still young for some nonproduction bred breeds to be laying. Either way, you have what you have, and nothing will change it. Only time will fully answer your questions unles you find an experienced chicken keeper to look at them for you.

Vinny, what breed are they? I agree that they are still quite young to be laying eggs. I have chickens at the same age and not all the boys are crowing yet at least regularly. In my birds I've noticed the Boys have longer legs, redder combs, prettier fancier feathers and cockier attitudes plus there is no mistake when you see them attempt to mate the girls.

I don't know the breed, I got them from a lady who said they were used at a children's party and then no one wanted them. They are white with red combs and a fairly good size. I haven't seen any mating behavior yet. I think I'll wait a while, then try the separating thing if it doesn't become obvious.

If they're the big Jersey Giants then they will be slow to mature. Notice the feathers on their necks and backs just in front of their tails. Roosters grow these long thin feathers there, hens do not. Look at pictures of grown roosters to see what I'm talking about. Roosters also grow those lovely long curving feathers in their tails but sometimes these don't appear until they're almost fully grown.

Well, we're getting three to four eggs a day now, and no crowing yet, so it looks like we have several hens, maybe all hens. I don't think they're Jersey Giants, though. From what I read, JG's get up to 8 lbs within a few months. These are about 3-4 lbs, at 4 to 5 months old.
