I think you just roll them up like a cone or cup. If doing it like a cup, you could use a can, jar or glass as a form...

Another idea is to use the leftover rolls from toilet paper and paper towels - fold one end in to hold the soil.

OK, got the technique. Made 500 pots in two days. I have them in groups of 60 in paper grocery sacks. Comeon SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheryl

How quickly do they decompose? Do you just plop it in the ground and not fuss with removing the pot?

I used them last year and they worked great! I left them in the newspaper pot and jsut loosened the bottom before I planted and made sure no paper stuck out of the top of the soil so moisture didn't wick.

Scotty, I don't understand the directions either. If you fold the ends of the newspaper into the jar, how can you remove the jar?

Scotty, all you do is cut some strips of newspaper a bit larger than the size pot you want. I use three strips for little pots (like 2"), if you are making bigger pots, you would probably want to use maybe 4-5 layers of newspaper to give it more "body". You just wrap the newspaper strips around a round object the size of the pot you want (could even be a plastic pot). It should be sticking out a little longer than the jar or whatever you are using. I tape it on the side, then fold the bottom down and tape it. Slide it off the form.

If you still don't get it, let us know.

I've found they hold up pretty well. They can dry out quickly because the newspaper dries.

I picked this up from burpee.com the last time I ordered and it seems to be a little less intensive, although it helps to cut all your newsprint to the right size beforehand to make it seem slightly less tedious...

Yes, I bought those too. They are nice, but I found a fish food container works just as well. I work at a school and get the kids to help me roll them up.

This link should help for those of you having trouble. Just be sure to fold the bottoms down, and don't leave them hollow like one reader did.
