With the big round bales, they are just up against the fence, and taken to the horses when they need them. I only use about 6 bale a year, so no experience holding hay longer than the winter. Any uneaten stuff goes into the garden the next fall.

The bulk of my hay goes to the cutter, he keeps the field clean and he doesn't cover his, either.
