pruning raspberries

I have two rows of raspberry plants, each about 15' or so in length. I'm not sure how old the plants are because I have only lived in this house about a year and a half.

In about March of last year and well before bud break I cut the canes down to about 12 inches high and thinned out the weak and old canes.

Last summer, I didn't get a ripe berry until last August but at that point I had a great crop and harvested lots of berries through September.

I'm wondering, might I get two crops or an earlier crop if I leaves the canes long?

I'm in zone 7 by the way, everything is freezing now so they won't start to leaf until late April.

Thank you!
