Accessing Attic Space

We are looking for a creative way to utilize our attic. There are no existing stairs to it and we don't want a large stair footprint to impact our 936ft home (small!) unduly. We've thought alternating tread, or ladder, but also have an 18month old who'd need to navigate them too. Your ideas oh so welcome!!!

Wow that's tricky! I rather think this might be a solution, even though it looks a little kooky! Hope the rest of the Houzzers have some solutions. Keep us posted!

Spiral staircase? They always look so fabulous, I think, and their footprint is quite small. And they can go up into a hole in the ceiling, if you don't have a loft attic like this.
