I would use the search function on this site and try something like "blueberries and pots." There have been loads of posts on this, and you'll be able to get a lot of info.

However, from what I've read on here, Sunshine Blue (I think??) is a good variety to try in pots as it stays relatively small.

Also, only afternoon sun might not be enough. How many hours do you get?

If your soil is naturally acidic (I know there are some regions in NC that have naturally acidic soil), I would strongly consider just planting them in the ground. I think that blueberries do better planted in the ground if the soil is the correct pH.

My blueberries are all thriving in medium to large pots. Growing blueberries in pots is easy because controlling the ph in the soil.

PH PH PH Ph... Thats what the key is.

This year I had to pull my from the ground since they had not produced in several years. Something about the location was not right.

I researched container grown blueberries and found, generally, that they recommend a potting mix of 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 shredded hardwood bark, and 1/3 premium potting soil. They are acid loving plants and the recommendation I got was to use Espoma Holly Tone. I potted them all in 24 gallon containers and will use some sort of burlap or similar around the pots to protect the pot itself from the suns rays. This will extend the effective life of the container and keep down the soil temps.
