Sterilizing Soil

I am currently working on sterilizing soil to pot up some plants, and have a question. I have read in various places that "soils containing large amounts of organic matter may release toxic compounds when heated too long or at too high a temperature." Usually, this is listed as 200 F. However, I also saw this website which talks about using temperatures up to 450 F (though it is not said that this soil is intended to have plants growing in it after sterilization). Can anyone here shed some light on this? In the posts I have looked at on this forum, I do not recall seeing anyone mention this problem. What I have been doing for this batch of soil is putting it in the oven at about 160 F. I have not used a higher temperature because the oven air temperature seems to vary between the temperature at which the oven is set and about one hundred degrees higher than that temperature. So should I worry about getting the soil too hot, or not?

Thanks,
