Try a lighter color like http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/oc-73 on the other walls and paint the ceiling, too. Maybe it's me, but your walls seem a little low for moulding. You could a simple trim around the window like though, along with a cream-colored Roman shade with wine trim in a design like You could build in a media center like or and paint it the same color as the walls or stain it in deep honey or caramel, which would show hints of the wine that your husband loves but you don't and provide ample storage space.

Hi, if the red wine wall is a 'must have' item, I would suggest painting a calmer, neutral white since the golden yellow you have is competing with the red and makes the room very bright.

If possible I would replace the sectional with a smaller one to visually open up the room.

For window treatment, I would hang a pair of light shears that goes floor to ceiling.

Looks to me as though you used your piece of art as the inspiration for your colors. You might want to bring your wine down a couple shades (darker). Take the formula for the "camel"- looking wall and put 1/4 of the gallon formula into a white base to create your ceiling paint. You will find that it will very much unite the ceiling with the walls without the room growing dark. I think I would get my paint figured out first before moving in other directions. So what you have that you don't like may well be needing a little tweaking. It's amazing how a minor alteration can have a major visual impact.

Strike what I said. Seems to me we have a color "whoops" here. Do I discern a red base in your carpet and your sectional, rather than a yellow base?

I really like color. However, there are a couple color combinations I try to avoid using together. One is yellow and red the other is tan and yellow. You have all three of those colors in your room together. So, what I'm trying to say is the palette is distracting me. You said something that is interesting about the wine colored wall..."I really don't like it". Is there any way you can propose a color to your husband that you will both like? Otherwise, it might be difficult to proceed with the rest of the room. I think a media center is a great idea. You could incorporate bookshelves and closed storage for your cildren's toys. Take a look...


One last thing...I think the sectional looks too big for the room. I think this combined with the wall color is why you may be having trouble with the room. I realize this may be a big change and perhaps not possible at the moment, but the room would come together nicely with a smaller sofa and a couple comfortable chairs. I hope that helps.

Many people pull colors out of art for their rooms...and that is what you have done! I like the room's colors with the art. Further, love is more important than a paint color. I think it is delightful that your DH has taken an interest in his home's decor and this should be honored.

I'd buy 3 wine pillows for the corner of the sectional and I'd buy this new ceiling fan. Note also the black shutters on the windows here, I think black blinds or shutters would look fine on the window.

I wouldn't bother putting anything else on the TV-wine wall. It's fine the way it is. Strive for a clutter-free, calm & peaceful room without a lot of gee-gaws around.

You got some good advice here. My two cents...If the wine is staying, paint the other walls white and add a white media center with the wine color the back of the media center's sections. I always have my curtains and valences off the windows. I'll never understand how people put windows in and then cover them. My drapes always open past the glass framing the window and the valence is always above the window. Also, you can have a frame shop make a frame for the television so it is more thoughtful.

Ok, I am thinking you have a large room with a regular ht. ceiling. Looks very stark with your other colors. Think you need to paint ceiling if your other colors stay.

Think Charmean in right. Red/Yellow/Tan thing. What are the parts you can't change? Husband wants the wine color. Frankly, I like it too. But if sectional needs to stay (try breaking it up and moving part to different area or to another room), then I think the yellow walls should go.

I would (are you sitting down?) paint the entire room a darker version of wine color. Also, hang up draperies that extend out much more than the window. Just hang with rings on a rod hung near ceiling. You don't have to cover any of your window, but it will soften the room, good to absorb sound and you can control light when you want to cut down on glare on tv screen.

Add tall palms to one or two of the corners. Change out fan as already mentioned. And that sofa thing again.. look at furniture consignment stores if a change out of sofa/chair is possible.

Your burgundy accent wall comes across with pink/mauve tones. I agree with karen paul interiors that the color could be richer and darker. White to off white walls will freshen up the room and provide some contrast to your beige sectional.

Also, I would like to point out your two wall colors are of equal value, and that creates a lot of visual tension. One needs to dominate. I've pasted a photo from Houzz to show you what happens when you have a darker value in one (the sofa) and the lighter value (the wall). So, if you want to tweak your colors, you might consider the picture as a guide for one value of color next to another. I'm am addressing your two wall colors, of course.
