Wow, those are all beautiful! What are the names for the two trailing violets? Great cat. My fuzzy partner isn't so helpful with keeping the plants looking nice... unless teeth marks are how houseplants should look.

Nice plants Larry, some striking AVs (that purple & white is one stunning).

Think maybe that Ceropegia woodii variegate could use more light, I love this variegate esp. when it gets the pink highlights.

    Nice haul, good growing.

Hi Larry, the plants are great..WOW...I really like the ceropegia woodii vine that one is going on my wish list, I have the plain I posted a pic of it here on the HP forum..and I have been looking for the mini violets but no luck in my area..Good Luck with your new plants...
And how do you keep your pretty partner away from the plants, are teeth marks normal??? ;) linda

Emerald, didn't I tell ya that varieg. Ceropegia woodii is GORGEOUS?!

Larry, I'd forgotten you really are the Gesneriad guy, huh? You've got quite the touch w/ them. We have someone similarly inclined in my local Plant Society, so he's shown some fabulous plants too, which he mostly grows under lights & from seed. I think I even have some seeds from him I'm not likely to use, streptocarpus, I recall.

Yes, now that it's mentioned, how DO you keep the grey partner off the plants?

My furry little partner helps me by keeping the plantlet runners on my Saxifraga in check...though she also helps by chasing away the bunnies who like to remodel my plants with their teeth.

Larry, those are some absolutely beautiful plants and impressive flowers. My favorite though would have to be the flowers on your Alsobia dianthiflora. Very interesting.

    Wow! Lots of questions!

    Frazzled,

The two miniature trailing violets are Pip Squeek and Lilli Blaklocken (Swedish violet).

Here is a better picture of Lilli Blaklocken:

I am very luck in that both of my cats leave our plants alone.

Here is a picture of both of them:

    emerald,

Thanks! And teeth marks are not normal in our house.

bunnygurl, Thank you also for the compliment. I also think alsobia dianthiflora's blooms are great.

And last by not least, Pirate Girl,

Yes I guess I am kind of the gessie guy. Although I think that title belongs to jon_d. I wonder what happened to him. I have not seen him post for a long long time.

Anyway, the violet you are referring to is Concord. It is a chimeral violet in that different parts of the plant have different genetic material. One cannot propagate a chimerial violet though leaf cuttings even though that is the general method with African violets. The leaves do not have the genitic information to make the pinwheel design on the flower. One has to use a crown cutting instead.

    Gosh Larry,

This Lilli Blaklocken looks SOOOO perfect, like the pic should be on a book cover or catalogue cover or something. Is that terrarium where it ordinarily lives? I'm not a Gessie person, but know enough to admire beautifully grown AVs. Not to be immodest, but I'd consider offering the pic to the supplier of the plant material, either grower, distributors, etc.

Am I the only person whose jaw is on the floor from the seeming perfection of this plant?

Yeah, I too thought the Alsobia bloom quite amazing.

As to the cats, well clearly they know who's running the show. They look like "yeah Dad, we're waiting patiently, but come on already, WHAT'S NEXT?"

I too have wondered whatever happened to Jon_D, such a nice man from whom I learned a lot too.

GREAT job Larry! Nice plants and Kitty!

    Thanks Karen,

That is a nice picture of Lilli Blaklochen. The plant was really doing well at the time. Actually, it is starting to bloom again and I think it's going to look just as good this time.

I'm not really sure who is in charge sometimes. I would like to think it's me, but they may have me fooled. You know how cats are.

I met Jon D. at the National Gesneriad show last year. It was in Denver last July. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to do more than say hello as he was about to go to one of the lectures and I needed to leave. I'm glad I at least got to say hello though.

Tommyr, thank you for the nice comment!

    Larry
