Cheshire cat today

A little too rainy but what the hey..

He's almost finished shape-wise. I'm thinking of smoothing him

down with a patching cement premix slurry and rubber gloves.

Because I found smaller solar light fixtures, I was able to

make the hole in the back of the head smaller.

Then the question is, is he really a ginger tabby, or was that

a Disney thing?

Not sure what color the original Cheshire cat was but looking forward to seeing your finished.
Everyone is going to love that cat.

Utterly remarkable (hey, those two words mean the same thing!), and adorable. Please keep us posted.

Pretty cool linnea. Are you placing anything in the eye sockets? I imagine some beautiful marbles, either the round ones or the flat ones with the iris painted in. I'm not sure if that's what you've planned considering you'll have the solar light in it. Can't wait to see the end result.

Trying to post a pic. Not sure if I'll do it right or not... if not email me, I will send u the picture...

Disney actually aquired the rights to Sir John Tenniel's original artwork for AIW. So the Chesire you see on Disney AIW was simply a cartoonish version of the original...

apparently I didn't do it right.

I don't think the book said what colour the cat was. I have an old children's book and in it the cat is a grey tabby.

    ---It's the grin that's important I guess!

I love your statue and the idea for a solar light is brilliant! Are the cat's eyes going to glow at night?

NO BODY MESSES WITH THE CAT! Very cool. I am astonished at the level of artistry that continues to climb with every revelation here and I am so very glad that everyone is so willing to show the process involved in the creation of their works of art. I can't wait to see the finished critter.

I'll bet you'll get more than one double take after he's done.

Linnea, your Cheshire is very real looking. In fact he's exactly the color of one of my cats as he is shown in the pics. I think you should make him whatever color you think he should be. You will inspire others with your talent. You inspire me!

Thank y'all for the kind words!

The rock, yes, the rock is real and was dragged there (leaving a gash
in the driveway) after a rookie plower hit the fill cap of the buried
1000 gal. propane tank (!). You can see the fill cap behind the cat
    to the right.

It is the kind of rock that needs an occupant. Soon, it will need
some muriatic acid as well, I made a mess.

The eyes need to be some sort of convex, opaqueish glass, plastic,
mica, mother-of-pearl or? lens, reflector, bottle bottom 1 1/2" in diameter THINGS.
I think I've seen small magnifying glasses that size at the dollar store.
    Any other ideas?

I've got some clear pearlescent glass beads for the grin, they now
need some silicone gums and a good adhesive, silicone won't adhere well
at all to concrete. It works with the light, I tested.
He's a big cat, about 3' as if you were Alice.

Around him I'm growing giant Allium, a Musa Basjoo, Tropicannas
    and probably Hibiscus.
    I'm obviously having a ball!
Thanks for joining in on the fun.

love your cat! he would fit right in with the 3' tall mushroom that i am creating, the chesire cat i believe is striped and i am not sure about this but i think the color is orange/brown. i only say that because i bought a cookie jar from a disney store with him on it.

In order to give him a "sparkling" glint in his eyes, could you use a small reflector, like the kind you use to mark a driveway, with the back removed so the light inside his head would make the eyes glow at night? During the day, the reflector properties would give him that subtle glint.
