Artificial Tree for Growing Area Project

I have an 8'x6'x14' 'room' I will be renovating this summer. It's intent is to house some of my collection of Epiphytes. I want to use hypertufa to create the faux tree and roots that will be used as not only decoration but will also provide growing space for the epiphytes.

I have experimented some when I created another growing area but only on a small scale. Could someone point me to some good resources on how to approach this. I read the thread on making some of the statues using paper fiber and was intrigued.

I can't point you to any direction, but I did go through all of your pictures and I have to tell you, that I LOVE IT ALL! What a wonderful, wonderful room! Made me feel like I was in an old jungle somewhere. You did a wonderful job with every bit of it, including the faux tree and roots-very realistic looking.

Thanks, I think it turned out pretty good. I must admit the top of the tree is a real cedar tree. I augmented the bottom with the roots. Has anyone tried using cloth strips and Portland cement and constructing like you do Papier Mache?

Yeah, I use Portland saturated cloth as a base when I do balloon planters. It makes a very thin shell which I then plaster with tufa.
