Wow! I'd be more interested in finding the cheapest gutters possible. No gutters is an invitation to mold and dry rot in your walls and foundation. It's probably cheaper to cover your pots with plastic sheeting on those rainy days.

This isn't the answer you wanted, but if you ever have to pay a contractor to rid your home of mold and dry rot, you will appreciate it.

We have no gutters on our house, so when it rains, any pot near the house either gets no moisture, or gets drowned. I assume that you can not move the pots to correct this problem?

If I created a wide furrow on one side of the pot to catch the water, would it then seep slowly into the portion with the plant? I am not picturing what you want to do. Most people make a pot out of hypertufa. It is lighter than concrete, but still heavy.

I agree with the idea of getting gutters, many houses without gutters allow water to settle around the foundation, seeping into the basement.
