My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.
Paws I have basically the same style unit. They work fine but not the best for indoors. They are dirty and smoky compaired to a Mig using gas but mine does the job.
Mine is a gas-shielded unit, so I have no experience with this type myself. I do understand that David's comment is correct and a common trait of them though. "Smokey and dirty" is how I've always heard them described. As for Harbor Freight, I love the place...but mostly for disposable or non-critical tools and consumables. Their stuff is mind bogglingly cheap for a good reason. I just threw out a back-up angle grinder I bought there. It was $8.99...it came apart in my face the first time I turned it on. Wasn't worth the drive to return it.
These days you can find some very good little mig units in the hundred+ amp range that run on 110v for under $400 bucks. Many of them "name" brands. Not sure where you are, but check out Tractor Supply online. They sell "farm-duty" little workhorses for very reasonble prices. Personally, I prefer the gas shielding and would spring for a few more bucks to get something worthwhile. Mine is somewhere around 15 or 16 years old and still kickin'.
I have a Lincoln Wire Feed $250 CDN which is not bad quality but I see new welders on EBay for as low as $25. They have to be crap but for $25 bucks if they work it's not a bad investment if you only zap a couple pieces a year.
Thanks Tango & David. I have used both stick and Mig and prefer Mig, just click and go. Most if not all of my welding would be outside anyway so "dirty" should not matter. Tacking together armatures and such. I wondered about HF and the quality. Sewem to have some pretty cheap items cost wise. I noticed Sears has some Migs I might check out. Don't want to invest alot right away just to see how it goes. Paws
Paws I think Sears sells Lincoln Migs and they have a good track record for durability. The folks who answer the phone 1-800 at Lincoln are straight shooters and will bend over backwards to advise you and help you out.
