de-lime da-tufa ??

20 years ago

Hell-o All;

Just been going over some of the topics and haven't seen any mention of something I've been using to neutralize the lime in my pots; (I grow jade in them). I have found that plain old white vinegar appears to neutralize the lime very quickly. I use it full strength and keep adding it until the "fizzing" stops and then wash out with water. I don,t know if Jades are imune to the lime or if I have really neutralized it, but my plants all thrive. Some of them are over 12 years in tufa containers and I've used this method all along. I also haven't had any problems with succulents and cacti. Someone may have commented on this but I couldn't find any any references related to vinegar. The only problem I have is with the strong, overpowering smell. I do my casting in my greenhouse and usually have to turn on the vent fans for a while to clear the oder out. Just curious. Packrat
