I put wood stain on alot of my projects and I've had very good luck putting it on within a week of releasing from mold. Some of my projects are a few years old and the wood stain continues to look as "good as new". Wood stain is so versatile and you can achieve so many looks. Good luck.

Wow I had no idea it could be done so soon.. Awesome! I thought they had to cure for at least a month before you could paint or stain. I cant wait to try it out on my latest creations lol...Thanks... are there any that tend to be better than others? I love your ginger pot by the way!

Reading about the wood stain on concrete reminded me of a project from a few years ago.

My mother lives in Phoenix and some contractors working on her patio accidently let an entire wheelbarrow of concrete set. They dumped it out of the wheelbarrow and drug it as far as the front yard but could not get the chunk into their truck.

My mother had them leave it near a pile a large rocks that are in the front landscaping. When I visited she asked if I could make it look like the rest of the rocks.

I have some experience casting pavers and acid staining, but I was only visiting for a few days, so I took a hammer to the 'rock' - broke some of the wheelbarrow shape away. Splattered and brushed on a couple of shades of redwood stain, finished up by misting some black spray paint and left it at that.

After three years in direct Arizona sun it still looks great and people ask her where she got that great red rock. No one seems to notice that it is not a natural rock until they look really close. It kind of has that 'Sedona, red rock' look.

Those huge rocks cost $$$ - and this one only cost about 10 dollars for the stain.

I have some homemade millstones that I'm wishing I could punch up the color on. I think I'll give wood stain a try.

nmgirl, be sure to try the water based stain like *minwax first, I tried the oil base and didn't like the finish it gave on concrete, *no odor either. Your millstones are fantastic, as soon as I find a good spot for one I'll be giving one of these a try out for sure. wendy
