Hello "Green Man"
Have had fairly good luck with coloring (weathering) tufa with my wifes acrylic craft paint. (don't tell her). I find it at Wally-World for about .45/bottle. Mix it with a little water until you get the desired shade and paint it on. Stuff comes in a zillion colors. A little goes a long way and by experimention with dilution and color mixing I can get a real weathered look on my pieces.

If you REALLY get hooked and need to paint a LOT of stuff - exterior acrylic latex house paint in the "mistake section" of hardware store is cheap and works like crazy. 3 years outside and my colors are still true and good. Use house paint and then like packrat said - the craft stuff from Wally World is great - then seal and you are good forever...or at least for awhile.

Very nice, I also use exterior latex paint, and craft paint. I think wannadanc is right the trick is to seal it up with several coats of sealer. Then it should last quite a while.
