When I first saw that a few years ago, I was thinking of maybe a concrete sphere with a light source inside, with the fiberoptic cable showing the light on the outside of the sphere wall. Only good at night, though...

Mostly, it seems to be used in walls, where the light of the sun is transmitted through the wall into an interior room.

I mentioned it to a friend, and she said, "Why not just make some holes in the sphere? For that matter, why not just make a concrete pumpkin?"
