All mold releases are NOT created equal!!

Morning!

Learned a valuable lesson a couple days ago.

I'm using styrofoam to make urethane molds.The first one,I used Crete-lease to help remove the styro.Worked well.Then,on a larger piece,I tried using Synlube 531 release agent.I bought it to use when I make fibreglass molds of some of our pieces.BIG mistake!!!This stuff basically melted the styro.Two days of cutting and shaping down the tube.

A lesson learned,and I pass that on to ya!

It might have had a petrol (gas) derivative in it? I seem to remember that petrol can be painted onto styrofoam to get an eroded 'eaten away' look.

OUCH!!! Sorry to hear of your loss Rick. Seems like Styro is sensitive to virtually anything with any kind of solvent base. I know I had fits for a while trying to find a glue that wouldn't cause a similar reaction. Wound up having to use a water-based stick-um.

Thanks for the kind words.
Tango,I've had success using Gorilla Glue and styro,as well as a commercial glue(PL 200)that's specifically for styro.
