My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.
Something I just read this in this forum's FAQ section:
"When the dry stuff is thoroughly mixed, MEASURE your liquid (I REALLY hope you're using an acrylic admix instead of just water...HONEST - it makes a BIG difference) and add HALF of it to the dry stuff. Start mixing..."
I have tried nothing except plain water and don't even know what an acrylic admix is! Any help here?
I use Probond Concrete Bonder made by Elmer's (Elmer's Glue) and Quikrete concrete Bonding Adhesive. I add pieces to other pieces so I use these two bonding agents. I "bond" pure fiber cement parts to different mixes. Fiber cement is pure portland cement worked into the fibers of fine steel wool and used to sculpt parts. Here is a picture of a piece I'm working on right now. It is in the rough stage and weeks from completion. The nose and lips were made with "fiber cement". Then the teeth (bits of ceramic tile), the nose and the lips were stuck to the jug surface with a mix of portland and Quikrete bonding agent. Yes the lips were made with a cement dye in the mix.
Terri, What are you making? If it's planters, stepping stones, bird baths, wall plaques, etc. You don't need any of the fibers, super plastisizers, arylic admixes. It's just not necessary. If you think you really have to have them you can get the arcylic admix wherever they sell bags of cement, like the big home improvement stores. The other items are available at a masonary supply house. There are many things that can be added to mixes that aren't really necessary for most applications. And some of the items in the FAQ were from people that would try different things just to experiment. Just because it's in the FAQ doesn't mean that it's true. Billie
r_murray, that's amazing! I'm not doing anything nearly that complicated or creative.
Bille, thanks for the reassurance. I'm making simple items like you mentioned and didn't think I needed a lot of extras. The FAQ remark made me second guess things. So again, thanks!
