safe sealing

morning,again!

About 18 months ago,I told some of you about a sealer from a company in Washington called Paverpro. It's a 2 part epoxy sealer, that cleans up with water and, more importantly,is foodsafe.

Well, the stuff works like a damn and our cat thinks that the fountain is its personal water dish.Absolutely no leaks at all. And,again, its foodsafe,a claim others cannot make. So,if any of you are putting food in your new bowls, ensure that your sealer is safe for foods. Not all of them are.

For those of us in Canada, this stuff from Paverpro is EXPENSIVE!There is another epoxy sealer from Edmonton but I don't recall its name or its quailifiers.Anyone know about it??

    I like this.
    There are many brands.

Here is a link that might be useful: Wax for concrete

Rick, I found some names in Edmonton, don't know if they're what you're looking for:

    Aegis Floor Systems

    ArmorThane Coatings

Recycled Solutions for Industry (Uni-seal Floor Coating)

    Tight-Grip Western

Bee's wax, how simple and reasonable. I like it! How about melted parafin? How about the sealer they use on wooden salad bowls. Anyone try any of these?

gottatufa they may all work well.I love the finish Briwax gives to tufa. It's hard as nails and a soft sheen.
Shoe polish from the Dollar store works great as well.
Cooking candle wax into my tufa with a heat gun is certainly on my list to try if I ever get my birdbath done.
Not sure how any of them will handle UV but they can always be reapplied.:)

That said every wax formula is different. They may add a little something that makes their product just a bit better for concrete than other common waxes.

Like I said-foodsafe.There was a discussion on a forum a while ago(here?)that related to this. The problem with most common sealers is the lingering toxicity ain't good for food use.To my mind,be safe, not sued!!
That said,if you're not selling your pieces, less worry for you.

    Buddy Rhodes Satin Concrete Sealer

Buddy Rhodes Satin Concrete Sealer can be used on all concrete and masonry surfaces, exposed aggregate, stamped and colored concrete, natural and manufactured stone brick and concrete paver tiles. It is ideal in any cooking, eating or food preparation area to protect surfaces against stains caused by food or beverage spills.

BR food grade Beeswax helps prevent stains from oil and water based products on concrete counters. The Beeswax will penetrate the surface and enhance the color.

Parafin melts in the sun. I can see it now, dripping onto my wooden deck....

Most Candle Wax outside would only work in birdbaths and inside pots.
That said you can buy blocks of wax that DON'T melt in the sun.
Candle wax comes in all sorts of melting temperatures.
From low temp body wax, very handy stuff for use in multiple sandcasting, to very high melting temperatures.

"Food safe" doesn't necessarily mean non-toxic uderwater; it might not be suitable for a birdbath or dog's dish for instance. Check that out before applying, i'm searching for such a safe product.

Look up Paverpro;it IS foodsafe. And,as a test, our cat's been drinking from the fountain for about 8 months(wouldn't deign to use the dog's waterdish, like the other cat!).No problems!
    Cheers from here
